These 2 Morning Habits Changed my Life!
How many of us dream of starting the day feeling focused and truly centered? Imagine waking up and diving straight into your purpose, without the immediate pull of messages, news, or the endless scroll… Sounds pretty amazing, right?
I truly believe the way we begin anything sets the tone for what follows. And when it comes to our day, that couldn’t be more true! Your first hour is sacred. It’s your chance to set the stage for how you want to show up in the world.
The Morning Trap: Are You Giving Your Power Away?
Think about it, how do you usually start your day? Do you hit snooze, procrastinate, scroll through social media, or get caught up in shallow tasks? If so, you’re not alone!
Many of us unintentionally train our brains to react to the world around us, filling our minds with engaging, but ultimately meaningless, distractions. This leaves us feeling less than great and can make us feel like we’re constantly playing catch-up.
Imagine a Different Kind of Morning...
Now, picture this instead:
- You wake up on time, feeling a sense of being ahead of the game, in control and ready to tackle your day. You’re the kind of person who follows through on what you set out to do!
- You choose to plan your day, practice yoga, meditate, or do some other form of exercise instead of immediately diving into social media.
This sends a powerful message to your brain: “I’m a creator, not a consumer. I live from the inside out, valuing what’s slow and deep over what’s quick and shallow.” - You dedicate time to your most important habits, making real progress toward your goals before the day even truly begins. How empowering is that?!
I’ve found that many people are looking for ways to create this kind of solid, consistent and rewarding morning routine. And there’s one incredibly powerful tweak that can make all the difference…introducing The Offline Morning.
💥Embrace the "Offline Morning"...
THIS is your secret weapon for focus!
So, what exactly is an Offline Morning? It’s simple, yet profoundly effective!💥
When you go to bed, put your phone in DND or airplane mode and leave it that way until your morning routine is completely finished.
This simple act cuts off the main source of morning distractions – the internet! If you’re prone to getting sidetracked on your laptop, put it in offline mode too and close distracting apps.
Making it Happen: A few preparatory steps
To make your Offline Morning a breeze, you might want to:
- Let others know you’ll be offline until a certain time each morning.
- Download any content you need for your morning routine (think guided meditations, workout playlists, or instructional videos) for offline use.
- Review your to-do list and calendar the night before, so you’re not missing anything urgent.
This might sound a little “extreme” at first, especially with how attached we’ve become to our devices. But trust me, it’s incredibly effective and easier than you think! The initial discomfort of not getting those instant “dopamine hits” quickly fades, replaced by a profound sense of wellbeing, focus, and clarity.
But what about emergencies?
For those with genuine needs to be reachable (like caring for family members), you still have options! Consider a landline, a basic flip phone for emergencies, assigning a backup person in your household, or using a smart home assistant for calls.
If going completely offline isn’t feasible, a “soft” version works too: use Do Not Disturb mode and add your important contacts to your “always allow” list. While notifications are still a tap away, it significantly reduces interruptions.
And if even that’s too tempting? Go a step further! Keep your phone in another room and set up your morning with old-school tools – a physical alarm clock, a paper journal, etc. You’ll trade a bit of convenience for a massive gain in focus, time and energy!
💫Beyond the Morning...
Introducing; No 'MESS' before 10am
Want to take this principle to the next level? I’ve personally found incredible benefits from implementing “No MESS Before 10 AM” (or even later, if you can!). MESS is an acronym for:
- Messaging
- Search
- Social Media (or Shallow Work – low-impact tasks that feel productive but don’t move the needle)
This means that even after your morning routine, before you open the floodgates of digital input, you commit to focusing on a few key tasks that truly matter to you. Imagine how much more satisfied you’ll feel when you’ve already made progress on your priorities before diving into the day’s communications! It’s a fantastic way to protect your mental health and accelerate your goals.
You Can Do It!
It’s natural to have that little voice that says, “This sounds great, but I can’t do it because…”
But here’s the truth: you absolutely can implement these practices! Even if your situation demands some online time early on, every step you take towards an Offline Morning will make a huge difference.
💖Here’s my challenge for you…💖
Try an Offline Morning for just one week, starting tomorrow! The initial fear or restlessness is often quickly replaced by a greater sense of peace, purpose and control. You might just find yourself enjoying your days – and your life – so much more.
Own your morning, own your life!
