How Much Does Breathwork Certification Cost? A 2026 Price Guide

A breathwork certification costs anywhere from about USD $250 for a short self-paced online course to more than $7,000 for a long facilitator pathway, and Grof-lineage holotropic training passes $15,000 before you’ve paid for a single night of accommodation. That’s the honest range for breathwork certification cost in 2026, and it’s wide because the products are very different. Some are 20 hours of video. Others are 400 hours over eight months with a graduation retreat in Italy.

This guide gives you the published prices for the programmes people search for most, explains what pushes a price up, and lists the costs that rarely appear on a sales page. Every price below was read on the provider’s own website in October 2026. Where a school doesn’t publish its price, we say so rather than guess.

The short answer: about $250 to $7,500

Most breathwork certifications fall between USD $250 and $7,500. Here’s what the best-known programmes publish, checked on each provider’s own site in October 2026:

What the Loka breathwork training costs

Our online breathwork teacher training is 50 hours, self-paced, and listed with Yoga Alliance for continuing education. It costs USD $399 with 90 days of access, after which you can keep the material for $4.99 a month, or $488 for lifetime access. There are no exam, graduation or membership fees.

It covers the classical pranayama techniques alongside modern breathwork methods, an anatomy and physiology module taught by a practising medical professional, trauma-informed facilitation and screening, and how to build sessions you can actually run.

Breathwork certification cost by tier

Most programmes fall into three bands. The band tells you more about what you’re buying than the brand name does.

Entry level, about $250 to $600. Self-paced online courses of 10 to 55 hours. You learn the techniques, the physiology behind them and how to run a basic session, usually with little or no live feedback on your teaching. HeartMath, YogaRenew, SOMA Breath’s Facilitator stage, ReWild’s facilitator course, Oxygen Advantage Level 1 and Loka sit here.

Mid range, about $1,150 to $4,500. Longer programmes with live online teaching, case studies or a proper assessment. Oxygen Advantage’s Advanced Instructor, BBTRS’s online practitioner certification and Aura Institute’s trauma training are typical. This is where you start getting real feedback on how you guide people.

Full facilitator pathways, about $4,500 to $7,500+. Hundreds of hours over months, mentoring, and usually one or more in-person retreats. SOMA Breath’s Instructor and Coach stages, Alchemy of Breath and BBTRS’s advanced certification sit here. Grof-lineage holotropic training is its own category: Grof Legacy Training USA lists $12,000 in tuition for Level I and roughly $5,000 more for Level II, with lodging and meals on top.

What pushes the price up

Hours and timeline

Price tracks hours more than anything else. A 20-hour course and a 400-hour course both end in a certificate, but they aren’t the same qualification. Divide the price by the hours and the gap narrows: a $399, 50-hour course is about $8 an hour, and Alchemy of Breath’s $7,200 for 400 hours is about $18 an hour before the retreat.

Live supervision and assessment

Video is cheap to deliver. Someone watching you guide a session and telling you what you missed is not. Programmes with live mentoring, observed practice and a pass-or-fail assessment cost more, and if you plan to work with groups or with people who have trauma histories, this is the part worth paying for.

In-person intensives

Retreats add tuition and travel. Alchemy of Breath bills its seven-day graduation BreathCamp in Tuscany separately from the $7,200 tuition. BBTRS’s advanced pathway includes three retreats in places like Poland, Mexico and Bali. Grof Legacy Training’s residential units come with room and board of roughly $740 to over $3,000 per unit, on top of tuition.

Brand and method licensing

A trademarked method often comes with conditions: you teach that method under that name, sometimes with a membership or a requirement to keep training to stay current. Grof Transpersonal Training, for example, asks certified holotropic facilitators to attend a module every three years. Read the terms before you pay, not after.

What the best-known programmes cost

SOMA Breath

SOMA sells a staged pathway. Stage 1, the Facilitator training, is $497 (or six payments of $97) for about 10 hours. Stage 2, Instructor, is $4,497. Stage 4, Transformational Coach, is $6,497 and includes a year of their membership. The Master level requires in-person training with founder Niraj Naik, and its price isn’t published. The hours on SOMA’s own page don’t all agree, so ask before you enrol.

Alchemy of Breath

The 8-month Comprehensive Training is 400 hours online and lists at $7,200 (a last-minute price of $6,800 applies to the November 2026 cohort until 5 November). It finishes with a seven-day graduation BreathCamp in Tuscany, which is paid for separately, so the real total is higher.

ReWild Breathwork

ReWild’s Trauma-Aware Functional Breathwork Facilitator course is $497 and self-paced over four to six weeks. The 200-hour Somatic Breathwork Practitioner programme runs live on Zoom over five months, with some cohorts adding an in-person immersion. Its price is given on a discovery call.

Holotropic Breathwork

Two organisations certify in the Grof lineage. Grof Legacy Training USA publishes its prices: Level I is $12,000 in tuition across an introductory unit and four residential units, Level II adds about $5,000, and you’ll also pay for consultations (about $100 an hour, minimum 10) plus lodging and meals at each residential week. Grof Transpersonal Training doesn’t publish prices. Either way, this is the most expensive route in breathwork.

9D Breathwork

9D doesn’t publish the price of its facilitator certification. You apply and are sent the details. We couldn’t find a reliable figure anywhere, so treat any number quoted second-hand with caution.

Oxygen Advantage

Prices are in euros. The Functional Breathing Instructor Level 1 is €449 for 55 hours online, with an exam. The Advanced Instructor Level 1 and 2 is €995 online for 100 hours plus live classes, an exam and three case studies, or €1,250 in person with Patrick McKeown.

Wim Hof Method

The instructor pathway starts with online video modules whose price is shown after sign-up, then a five-day in-person Module III. The October 2026 US Module III was €2,799.

BBTRS (Biodynamic Breathwork)

The online practitioner certification is $1,850 for about 54 live hours. The advanced certification is 550 hours over 18 to 24 months with three in-person retreats, with units starting around $1,850 each.

For how these programmes compare on teaching quality rather than price, see our breathwork certification comparison.

“A higher price doesn’t make a programme safer, and a membership logo doesn’t tell you whether anyone will watch you teach.”

The costs nobody puts on the sales page

  • Travel and accommodation for any in-person component. On a retreat-based pathway this can match the tuition.
  • Graduation or retreat fees billed separately from tuition.
  • Ongoing access fees. Some online programmes, including ours, give you a fixed access window and then charge a small monthly fee if you want to keep the material. Check whether lifetime access is an option and what it costs.
  • Insurance. If you guide sessions for money you’ll want professional liability cover. Our guide to yoga teacher insurance and liability covers how it works.
  • Paid memberships and listings. Breathwork has no regulator and no licence. The badges you’ll see, the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA), the International Breathwork Foundation (IBF) and Yoga Alliance’s continuing education listing (YACEP), are memberships or listings a school or practitioner pays for. They show a programme meets that body’s own criteria. They don’t make anyone more qualified, and you don’t need one to teach. YACEP has one practical use: if you’re a registered yoga teacher, its hours count towards your continuing education.

Six questions to ask before you pay

The price on the page is only part of the answer. Before you commit, get these six answered in writing.

How many of the hours are live?

Recorded hours and live hours are not the same thing. Ask how many hours involve a teacher in real time, and how many of those are you practising on other people rather than watching.

A certificate earned by finishing videos means less than one earned by being observed and passed. Ask what the assessment is, who marks it, and whether you can fail.

Intense breathwork isn’t safe for everyone. A good training spends real time on who shouldn’t do which techniques, and on what to do when a session goes wrong. If the answer is vague, that tells you something.

Add tuition, any retreat or graduation fees, travel, accommodation and required materials. Some programmes look cheap until the in-person week is priced in.

Ask about access fees, membership or licence renewals, and any requirement to keep training to stay certified.

Several programmes are non-refundable once you start. Know that before you pay, especially for long pathways with instalments.

Cost by country

Most online certifications are priced in US dollars or euros and cost the same wherever you live, so whether you’re in the United States, Canada, Australia or the UK, the online prices above apply after currency conversion. What changes by country is the in-person part: flights, accommodation and time off work.

In the US, Grof Legacy Training’s residential units are held domestically. In Australia, Breathless Expeditions runs in-person instructor training in New South Wales, though its price isn’t published online. Wherever you are, an online course with no required travel will always be the cheapest route to a certificate.

Is a cheaper certification worth it?

It depends on what you’ll do with it. If you’re a yoga teacher, coach or therapist adding breathwork to work you already do, a well-built online course of around 50 hours gives you the techniques, the physiology and the safety screening you need, at a fraction of the cost. If you plan to run intense breathwork for groups, or to work with trauma, pay for supervision and assessment. That’s what the higher price buys.

Many of our students have already done far more expensive breathwork trainings elsewhere, and still tell us ours is the most complete they have taken. Some have worked in the breathwork industry for decades and say the same.

What isn’t worth paying extra for is a badge. Ask instead how many hours are live, who assesses you, and how much of the course covers contraindications and screening. If you want the background first, start with what pranayama is and how polyvagal theory is used, and misused, in breathwork.

What our graduates say.

“Having done multiple online courses, this one stood out for its depth and practicality. The teaching section was phenomenal. I loved the anatomy, the guided sessions, and how I now truly understand the breath. 5 stars from me!”

Macarena Williamson (New Zealand)

“This course exceeded every expectation. I thought I was just filling in gaps, but I walked away with a complete, embodied understanding. I finally feel ready to guide others in a safe, informed way. The value is unmatched.”

Courtney Bourke (Australia)

“I joined to deepen my yoga and meditation knowledge, and I left with a new calling. This training helped me understand the why behind the breath. The anatomy, the practice, the philosophy: it all came together. I feel confident, prepared, and so excited to teach.”

Leslie Laiuppa (USA)

Frequently asked questions

How much does breathwork certification cost?

Between about USD $250 and $7,500 for most programmes. Self-paced online courses of 10 to 55 hours cost $250 to $600, live-online programmes with assessment cost $1,150 to $4,500, and full facilitator pathways with retreats cost $4,500 to $7,500 or more. Grof-lineage holotropic training costs over $15,000 in tuition before accommodation.

SOMA Breath’s Facilitator stage is $497, the Instructor stage is $4,497 and the Transformational Coach stage is $6,497, according to SOMA’s own site in October 2026.

The 8-month, 400-hour training lists at $7,200, with a separately billed seven-day graduation retreat in Tuscany.

No. Breathwork isn’t regulated and there’s no licence. Bodies like the GPBA, the IBF and Yoga Alliance are paid memberships and listings, not regulators. A solid training still matters, for your clients’ safety and for insurance.

If you’ll guide other people, yes, as long as the training covers screening, contraindications and supervised practice. If you only want to deepen your own practice, a good book or a short course may be enough.
